COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS BETWEEN LOW, MEDIUM AND HIGH LEVEL HAMMER THROWERS

    Get PDF
The hammer throw is characterised by the complex spatial structure of the action, where to achieve the maximum final velocity of the hammer is necessary to make two or three previous "winds" of the hammer followed by three, four or five turns, while simultaneously the thrower-hammer system moves lineally across the throwing circle. All this is complicated further by the change in spatial orientation of the plane that defines the pathway of the hammer in each turn. This fact, together with the relatively long time used to achieve the final hammer speed, makes it difficult to analyse the factors that influence the distance of the throw, so that various solutions among them are possible. Taking into account the product factors which determine the distance of the throw, the tangential velocity of the hammer head at the end of throw will be determined by the increase in speed of each turn, a rate of increase that is individual for each thrower. It should reach its maximum value at the instant that the thrower releases it, when the projection angle will be conditioned by the inclination plane of the hammer in each turn, the thrower's final action and the height of release. Other relevant aspects involved in hammer throw are the positions adopted by the thrower in each turn (double and single support phases), the radius of the turn, the change of the resultant angular momentum, the hammer's plane of inclination to the horizontal, the displacement of the thrower's centre of gravity across the throwing circle. The main aim of this work has been the development of a comparative Analysis between the main biomechanical factors obtained in three different groups of hammer throwers. This knowledge can help to hammer throwers and their coaches for improving training methodologies in early stages of training (beginners)

Background: Physical inactivity, excessive sedentary time, and lack of sleep time have been independently associated with lower health-related physical fitness. However, little is known about the combined association between 24-h movement guidelines (i.e., physical activity, recreational screen time, and sleep duration) and components of physical fitness. Objective: The main aim was to examine the likelihood of having high/very high levels on different components of physical fitness based on meeting with 24-h movement guidelines. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 1276 Spanish youths (13.07±0.86; 55.88% boys), aged 11–16 years, completed self-reported questionnaires on physical activity, recreational screen time, and sleep duration. Physical fitness components were assessed by 20-m shuttle-run test, standing long jump test, handgrip strength test, and 4×10-m shuttle-run test. Meeting 24-h movement guidelines was defined as: 9–11h/day (children aged 5–13) or 8–10h/day (adolescents aged 14–17) of sleep, ≤2h/day of recreational screen time and at least 60min/day of moderateto-vigorous physical activity. The probability of having a high/very high score for each physical fitness components (i.e., ≥60th centile according to the normative cut-off points for European adolescents) in relation to adherence to 24-h movement guidelines was analyzed using a series of binary logistic regressions. Results: Participants who met the three 24-h movement guidelines were more likely to have high/very high for cardiorespiratory fitness (OR=3.31; 95% CI: 1.79, 6.14; p<0.001), standing long jump (OR=1.91; 95% CI: 1.06, 3.45; p=0.031), muscular fitness (OR=2.05; 95% CI: 1.09, 3.86; p=0.048) and physical fitness (OR=1.99; 95% CI: 1.08, 3.66; p=0.012), but not for handgrip strength (OR=1.15; 95% CI: 0.64, 2.01; p=0.636) and speed/agility (OR=1.65; 95% CI: 0.92, 2.96; p=0.093), compared to those who did not meet all three recommendations. Conclusion: Since meeting the three 24-h movement guidelines increased the likelihood of having higher levels in most physical fitness components, it seems necessary to promote these movement behaviors early in life, as they could serve as a gateway for improving health-related fitness in future generations. This study has been funded by the European Community and the Ministry of Economy of Extremadura (IB16193). <br /

Inter and intra molecular dynamics in poly(trimethylene 2,5-furanoate) as revealed by infrared and Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopies

9 pags., 9 figs., 2 tabs.Infrared spectroscopy (IR) and Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy (BDS) experiments have been performed in poly(trimethylene 2,5-furanoate)(PTF) and poly(trimethylene terephthalate)(PTT) below their glass transition temperatures. The BDS experiments reveal a richer inter-molecular dynamic for PTT as characterized by a multimodal β relaxation in contrast with the monomodal one exhibited by PTF. The evolution with temperature of comparable IR absorption bands is very similar for PTF and PTT and shows small shifts in wavenumbers towards lower values, with exception of the band related to the stretching mode of the carbonyl group. In addition, a significant difference appears in the shape of the bands associated with the –C[dbnd]O stretching. While for PTT the absorption feature is comprised of a single component, that for PTF exhibits several components suggesting the presence of hydrogen bonds. This effect may be responsible for the monomodal shape of the β relaxation of PTF since a higher degree of intramolecular coupling between the furan ring and the rest of the monomer is expected. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations support the experimental results revealing that as temperature increases an increment of the syn conformations of the 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) moiety is likely to occur in the amorphous state. The energy gain from more stable anti to less stable syn isomers can be compensated by the formation of hydrogen bonds between interchain FDCA moieties in syn conformations. This effect may cause additional hindrance to the intermolecular dynamics of the dielectric β relaxation. It is conceivable that the hindrance exhibited by PTF in both intra and inter-molecular dynamics may play a role in the reduction of gas diffusion and permeability of PTF in comparison with PTT.Grants PID2019-107514 GB-I00/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and PID2019-106125 GB-I00/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by “ ERDF A way of making Europe”. 11th Conference on Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy and its Applications (BDS2022), Donostia/San Sebastián, 04.Sep - 09.Sep 2022. -- Presentación con 25 diapositivasPoly(alkylene 2,5-furanoate)s, (PAF)s, are fully biobased homopolyesters based on 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid that have recently emerged as promising alternative to petroleum based poly(alkylene terephthalate)s. In addition to a lower production carbon footprint poly(alkylene 2,5-furanoate)s have received significant attention due to their outstanding gas barrier properties in comparison to traditional poly aromatic esters [1]. The influence of chain dynamics on barrier properties has also devoted some attention. Dielectric spectroscopy experiments performed in poly(trimethylene 2,5-furanoate) revealed that the subambient relaxation, below its glass transition temperature, exhibited an inhibition of the mode corresponding to the ester oxygen linked to the aliphatic subunit which efficiently relaxes in the poly(trimethylene terephthalate) counterpart [2]. Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy can provide precise information of intra-molecular motions at the molecular level [3]. By evaluating the vibrational frequencies and the corresponding oscillator, strength from the IR spectra information about the intra-molecular dynamics can be available. In this study, we present a combined IR spectroscopy and BDS study focused on the sub-glass temperature molecular dynamics of poly(trimethylene 2,5-furanoate) in comparison to that of poly(trimethylene terephthalate) in order to shed light on the influence the dynamics on the barrier properties of Poly(alkylene 2,5-furanoate)s.The authors gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (MICINN) through PID2019-107514GB-I00 / AEI / 10.13039/501100011033
